Usman Khan on FN 40 under 40 list for 2015

14 September 2015 in AWARDS by Tim Binnington

Financial News’s fifth annual 40 Under 40 Rising Stars in Trading and Technology reflects this new reality, with more buyside traders on the list than ever before and electronic trading experts working across the asset classes. There is also a strong presence from strategists – including former regulators who were actively involved in drawing up the very rules that are having a transformative effect on their new companies. While the people on the list are all united in their ability to help their companies grow, they also come from a varied background.

USMAN KHAN
CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER AND CO-FOUNDER, ALGOMI
AGE 36

Technology firm Algomi, founded by Khan and former UBS colleagues Stu Taylor and Robert Howes in 2012, continues to grow in size and influence, helping banks and investors find liquidity to match bond trade orders. In early 2015, Algomi launched its platform to asset managers enabling institutional investors to see the dealers best placed to make a trade. By July 2015, it counted M&G, Schroders, Allianz, BlueBay and Aviva among its 100 buyside clients and had added 50 staff within 12 months, bringing numbers to 140 across three markets. Khan also led the Algomi technology team developing SIX Swiss Exchange’s new bond trading platform in 2015. He continues to mentor fintech start-ups and run his philanthropic initiative peopleneedhelp.org.
